Here's where this method really pays off with an added benefit. I take another piece of pvc pipe and wrap some 100 grit adhesive backed sandpaper three quarters of the way around it.

I place this combination in the fillet and slide it the length of the fillet to remove the seam where the epoxy meets the fins and airframe.

Because this combination of sandpaper and PVC has a larger diameter than the PVC alone, it isn't a perfect fit. Extra attention must be taken to not wear grooves in the fins and body tube. I work the leading and trailing edges the same way.
