I'll probably get asked what the red stuff is on the motor retainer. It's 3M Plastic Tape, which is great for masking. It stays on until after the final clear coat.

A primer is applied and sanded several times until the the contours "melt" into each other. I prefer to use a medium gray primer, which provides a greater range of highlights and shadows. I consider this better for evaluating what needs to be worked on.


Fillets after a primer coat of paintFine sanding sponges and Scotch Brite pads are used from this point on. The one downside to the Scotch Brite pads is they can collect a lot of lint which can find its way back onto your rocket.
